Marc Ballouz, born in 1965 in Beirut, Lebanon, earned his Bachelor's in Civil Engineering from the American University of Beirut in 1987. He obtained MS and PhD degrees in geotechnical engineering from Texas A&M University in 1994. In 1997, he founded the Institute for Geotechnics & Materials (IGM), which grew internationally with over 200 employees. IGM specializes in solving geotechnical engineering challenges, from lab testing to large-scale construction projects. Dr. Ballouz is renowned for his expertise in deep foundations for structures like bridges and high-rise buildings.
He has published extensively on deep foundations and landslides and teaches soil mechanics and foundation engineering. An ISSMGE board member, he has received the ISSMGE Outstanding Public Relations Award for promoting geotechnical engineering globally.
